Legal and policy services combined
Our Antitrust Group focuses on litigation in federal and state courts, and counseling and representation before the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, international antitrust enforcement bodies and U.S. Congressional Committees. In combination with our Competition Policy & Corporate Mergers Group, our Antitrust team has represented defendants in significant antitrust cases for almost 20 years involving complex, multi-jurisdictional issues for both public and private companies. Our team also has significant experience representing plaintiffs in antitrust cases.
Requiring distinct expertise, our Antitrust Group handles both the criminal and civil issues that arise in antitrust disputes. This area can involve representation of individuals or companies, and it can involve government investigations that lead to appearances in front of grand juries, congressional committees, state and federal courts, or government agencies. Cases often weave their way to the U.S. Supreme court.
Our attorneys recently prevailed in the Bell Atlantic, et al. v. Twombly antitrust case in the U.S. Supreme Court, in which Qwest and its co-petitioners prevailed in a 7-2 decision. We represent one of the defendants in a metals antitrust case pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma (on remand from the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals), and we recently represented a physicians hospital organization in an FTC investigation into price fixing. At the state level, we represented an airline in a five-year antitrust investigation by the Colorado Attorney General. We also served as lead counsel representing a bus company in a multi-million-dollar class action antitrust case in the Superior Court in San Francisco, California, under California's Cartwright Act, alleging collusion and price fixing among the tour bus companies in the Bay Area.
