Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce Matt Grinney will join the firm as a policy director in the Washington, D.C., office. Grinney’s work will be focused on the financial services industry.

“Matt is a well-respected and well-connected financial services policy strategist, bringing valuable experience from his time serving across the executive branch during President Trump’s first term and in the financial services industry,” said Will Moschella, co-chair of the firm’s Government Relations Department. “He is a great addition to our strong financial services team that helps clients successfully navigate the complex legislative and regulatory landscapes that the industry faces.”

Grinney most recently served as managing director at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), where he represented broker-dealers, investment banks and asset managers before Congress, the White House and regulatory agencies on issues ranging from capital markets reform to tax policy. During the first Trump administration, Grinney served as a senior policy and communications advisor for the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and speechwriter for former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, and previously, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). In these roles, he developed deep ties across Capitol Hill and the executive branch and led the efforts to communicate the administration’s priorities related to mortgage finance reform, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and revitalizing the nation’s space industry.

Grinney earned his MBA from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business, his master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his bachelor’s degree from Emory University.
