In the spirit of the giving season, a group of volunteers in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Reno office spent a Wednesday last week helping to prepare food packages for members of the community who are in need through the firm's Karma program.
A team of Brownstein attorneys and staff packed 600 bags of food while working with the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada to support the organization’s food bank in Reno. The St. Vincent’s Food Pantry, the largest in the state, serves more than 15,000 individuals every month by providing nonperishable food at no cost. The program is run with three paid staffers while relying on volunteers.
“We always enjoy our Karma events at St. Vincent’s and love the challenge of accomplishing as much as possible during our volunteer shift,” Office Administrator and Karma Project Leader Jill Alger said. “It felt great to be working together to help those so much less fortunate than we are.”
Throughout the year, Brownstein organizes Karma Projects so employees and clients as well as their family and friends can give back to the communities in which they live and work. In each office, Karma Committees plan “done-in-a-day” projects to support local nonprofits, totaling 40 Karma Projects in 2016.
