Ed Royce Receives Medal for Leading Charge to Recognize Chinese American Veterans

May 10, 2022

On Wednesday, April 13, former Rep. Ed Royce—a policy director in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office—was presented with a medal in recognition of his leadership in the passage of the Chinese American World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act. Royce, who chaired the House Foreign Affairs Committee at the time of passage, led the charge to present Chinese Americans who served in the Second World War a special Congressional Gold Medal. The act was signed into law on Dec. 20, 2018.

In a statement, Royce said he was proud to aid in their recognition. “Chinese Americans served in the Flying Tigers, in the battles in Asian jungles to keep the Burma Road open and in all theaters of the campaign to suppress imperial Japan, Nazi Germany and fascist Italy’s genocidal campaigns across five continents.”

The medal was awarded by retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert Lee “in appreciation of Royce’s sponsorship of public law 115-337.”
