Norm Brownstein Recognized as a 2022 South Trailblazer by The American Lawyer

October 03, 2022

Norm Brownstein, founder and chairman of the firm, was named to The American Lawyer’s 2022 South Trailblazers list. Now in its second year, the list recognizes agents of change who have moved the needle in the legal industry.

In his profile, Chairman Brownstein spoke of launching a legal practice with Steve Farber and Jack Hyatt in 1968, developing relationships with elected officials in Washington, D.C., and opening an office in the nation’s capital in 1995, which has since grown into the country’s largest lobbying firm by revenue.

The profile also highlights Chairman Brownstein’s storied career in Washington, D.C., including his role in ensuring the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department opened up credit markets to serve businesses as part of the 2020 Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, helping secure an executive order to fight antisemitism at American universities and leading the cable industry in the 1996 Telecommunications Act

“After 30-plus years of lobbying, I’ve learned there are no sure things,” he told The American Lawyer. “And that reflects a political and legislative process that is highly fluid with members of the House and the Senate, as well as the president, always under extraordinary pressure to take one position or another.”
