Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck welcomes Sloane Whelan as a senior policy advisor in the firm’s Denver office. Her work as a strategic communications and public affairs counselor to clients in a variety of industries including the energy, cannabis, higher education and health care sectors will add to the firm’s growing State Government Relations practice.

Most recently, Whelan was a senior vice president in the state and local practice, Direct Impact, at BCW where she managed teams across accounts to drive clients’ legislative and regulatory priorities nationwide. Prior to that she worked as senior vice president for KO Public Affairs in Maryland where she served as a public affairs advisor and contract lobbyist for a portfolio of clients. Sloane also brings her past experience as the South Carolina director of public affairs for Planned Parenthood and as the North Carolina women’s vote director for President Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.
Whelan earned her bachelor’s degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
